The University of Sunderland

The University of Sunderland have been providing an education since 1901 and are proud to be an innovative, accessible and inspirational university. The University was short-listed for both the 2013 Times Higher Education Awards for Outstanding Student Support and the 2013 Guardian University Awards for Widening Participation.


Sunderland focuses on people development and enhancing the student experience. The university is forward-thinking with high standards of teaching, research and support, and were the 1st university in the UK to have a computer. Sunderland has a particularly good reputation in Sports Science with world class sporting facilities that were chosen as a Pre-Olympic Training Provider for the 2012 Olympic Games. The University also has a thriving sports community as well as a dedicated service (Institute of Sport) committed to supporting all sports provision at Sunderland, from complete beginners to professional athletes.


The University has two campuses in Sunderland, the largest city between Edinburgh and Leeds: the Sir Tom Cowie Campus by the sea (built on the site of the world famous former shipyards of the River Wear), and City Campus in Sunderland's city centre. A third campus has recently been opened in London at Canary Wharf, the heart of Europe's most important financial centre.
